Hi all, i am a new member of the site. i am a final year student in PR doing a dissertation on crisis management and how companies can effectively anticipate in the situation of a crisis.. for the purpose of my primary research i will be conductiong interviews to PR practitioners and academics really soon and it would be nice to get opinions on what about is good to ask... it would be nice to hear some ideas! thanks for your time. |

For starters, you might use the global economic crisis and ask why those in charge of both corporations and government didn't see it coming? Or, if they did, why they didn't act sooner? Also, I'm wondering if one of the big reasons we got into this mess wasn't caused - in part - by the corporate and political mentality of not seeing beyond the next quarter...or the next election. |

Welcome to the forum Olivia! I'm not entirely sure what you mean by, "effectively anticipate in the situation of a crisis." However, anticipation is a very important part of crisis management. There is the anticipation done before the crisis, when various crises are being anticipated as the crisis plan is being drafted. Then there is the anticipation done while the crisis is actually happening. Often the later is more instinctual, because there is little time to think one must rely on training and experience. As for questions, a few I can think of are: How important are crisis plans and training in helping companies anticipate and prepare for crises? When a PR crises hits how does one anticipate what the public expects of them -- what actions they need to take? How does one anticipate what message the public wants to hear? And how does one anticipate how to respond -- be it a formal interview, written statement or not at all. Well, hopefully this was a little help. |
